Description
Cap already supports customizable default project names with placeholders such as {date}, {time}, {target_name}, {target_kind}, {recording_mode}, and {moment:...}.
It would be useful to also support a random-string placeholder so generated recording/project filenames can be unique without relying on seconds or target names.
Proposed solution
Add a placeholder such as:
{random:10}
where the number controls the generated string length.
For example:
{moment:YYYY-MM-DD-HH.mm}-recording-{random:10}
could produce:
2026-10-07-23.43-recording-AGASDFASDF.cap
A default like {random} could also generate a sensible fixed length, e.g. 8 or 10 characters.
The generated value should ideally be filename-safe and use a simple alphabet such as A-Z0-9 (or another documented character set).
Use case
This makes it easy to generate short, sortable, collision-resistant filenames while keeping the human-readable date/time prefix, e.g.:
YYYY-MM-DD-HH.mm-recording-XXXXXXXXXX.cap
This would fit naturally into Cap's existing project-name template system and could also be useful for screenshots and exported files that use the same template machinery.
